Colon Street, the oldest in the Philippines, bore witness to the inception and growth of Cebu City. Planned by the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1565, this short stretch of road was once Cebu's heart of commerce. Nowadays, Colon Street is a far cry from its fashionable and glamorous past. The colonnades of the Cine Oriente, which hosted live theater performances and subsequently becoming Cebu's first cinema, is now layered with gray dust from the hustle and bustle that breathes life to the city.
